The film refuses to romanticise migration or reduce it to darkness. It reminds us that homesickness is not a weakness, but part of growth.

When Eilis returns to Ireland, she discovers that she has become a stranger there too. Like many migrants, she must build a third home within herself.

Eilis develops from a shy young woman into someone capable of choosing her own future. Migration becomes an engine for self-discovery.
A Home Made of Colour and Words
Samin’s first year after migration was harder than anything described in academic papers or guidebooks. Although she arrived with research experience, published work, and several unfinished canvases, her days became confined to the university library and the grey walls of her apartment.
She noticed that many successful students and newly arrived migrants shared the same pain: deep loneliness and an absence of belonging. Samin understood that people could not live through work and study alone. They needed a community.
A Simple Invitation
Samin announced a free Saturday painting workshop and open conversation. No experience was required. Five people came to the first meeting, each carrying a different version of loneliness.
The Language of Colour
As participants painted, they spoke about language barriers, homesickness, and feeling lost. Soon they were exchanging job opportunities, recommending Persian-speaking doctors, and helping one another move home.
The Bridge Association
The workshop developed into a registered community named Bridge, connecting academia with art and the past with the future.
The Lines That Connect Us
One year later, Bridge held an exhibition of works created entirely by migrants who had never painted before. Educational workshops and academic guidance were offered alongside the exhibition.
Watching the crowded gallery on opening night, Samin realised that migration is not simply a change of address. It is also an opportunity to build, with our own hands, the community we have always wished to belong to.
Community begins with someone taking the first step.
